Every great creature has a beginning…let me tell you about mine. I was born in the wild. Just me and my three brothers. We lived under the deck of a real big house. It was pretty sweet, we had a pool in the back and more trees than I could ever climb. The first week of my life was boring; I was kind of tumbly, just learning to walk, so I didn’t get very far. Let’s skip to week two, that’s when things got interesting. I’ll never forget the day I first saw her…Andrea that is. She was at the pool. My brothers and I were making our way over to see what she was doing when one of my brothers made a noise and scared her. We all froze; she froze. She ran back into the house and we ran back under the deck. That was that. Or so I thought.
Later that night I would meet the 2nd character soon to enter my life…Tom, the big guy. He was a softie and saw my brothers and I tumbling around under the deck. Every night he started to put milk out for us on the top step. I always made sure I was first to the bowl---a kitty’s gotta eat!
A few nights later, I met the 3rd character that would also permanently enter my life…Sandee. It was night time and she and Andrea were outside when she saw me and tried to reach down to pet me. I was scared and I bit her…hard. I didn’t know at the time, but she’s actually a very nice girl. Even today, she still has a scar from me on the palm of her hand.
After that night, Andrea and Sandee found a home for my brothers with a family down the road and I stayed here and moved into the garage. Andrea said they needed to “monitor” me for a week. I wasn’t sure how this week would go. I didn’t know if I liked them and they weren’t sure about me (even though I’m a very sweet kitty boy). But as the week progressed, Andrea bought me toys and would sit for hours and play with me and Tom always made sure I had plenty of milk and food; these people were starting to grow on me, and I could tell I was starting to warm their hearts.
What started out as an unexpected encounter just one week ago had turned into a wonderful beginning. That moment, that bite, changed my life forever--- in a very good way. I was on my way to becoming a member of the family.
